San Francisco Makes a Play for the Oakland A's Jack Cust: The A's might pay for not paying.
Jack Cust, the Oakland A's free agent, power hitter, and home run leader over each of the past 3 years, who was not offered salary arbitration by the Oakland A's, has been contacted by the San Francisco Giants (per CSN Bay Area).
The Giants, recently having been turned down by Adam LaRoche, and publicly in pursuit of a left handed power bat, have turned the heat up on any efforts by the Athletics to re-sign Cust.
Cust has some defensive limitations, and like most power hitters, is prone to the strikeout, but he does have some pop. The A's were willing to negotiate with him on the free market, instead of in arbirtration, in hopes of being able to convince him to return at a discount.
Which is typical, and why this team is nothing more than a 5 star farm system for the rest of the league.
